Webquests

Webquest teach more than the content that you are inputting. They also teach students digital literacy skills. Go to one of these sites and respond to the questions.

1) Connecting the Digital Dots
or
2)Wikipedia :please read the main definition, use in education, society and global impact

With this information in mind, would you go about your webquest differently? If not, how else could you teach digital literacy?

  1. I would not go about my webquest any differently. I use multiple digital resources and games to help engage and keep the students interested. I could add a different media source other than the internet but I do not think it would apply to younger kids,

  2. I probably wouldn't change my webquest. There are several different ways to teach digital literacy, but one of the best ways is to have kids simply use technology on a regular basis. Giving kids an opportunity to use technology, and even make mistakes with that technology, helps them understand how to use it and how to correct their errors. Children interact with technology all the time, why not use it to the teacher's advantage and have them use their skills to improve their learning.

  3. I would not go about my webquest differently, digital literacy is simply taught by the use and practices of technology. Students will obtain digital literacy through the use of technology and it's educational advantages.

  4. I would not change my webquest. I am including videos, games, and visually appealing information. Another way I could teach digital literacy is by incorporating different resources and media. Also, for older grades, I might have the students create their own webquests about a relevant topic discussed in class. They would have to provide the answers to their own questions and share them with each other.

  5. I would not change my webquest. As it is, I have many different interactive tools, such as videos, games, and other stimulating ways to get the students attention. I think that digital literacy can be taught by introducing students to the web and all other technology constantly, so they are more able to use it independently. I think technology is ever increasing and in this point in time, students should be up to date with it.

  6. I would not do anything differently on web quest knowing this information. I would simply use other tools. I would make sure that children understand and are capable of fulling utilizing technology by creating videos or lesson to teach them the current forms of technology.

  7. After reading the wikipedia definition of digital literacy, use in education, society and global impact it encourages me to use webquest more because of how it helps the students learn how to cite work especially websites. I found it interesting that they said it promotes communication which I think technology does a great job of doing. I think the goal to this is to help promote digital literacy, having the children use it more because of it’s positive impact on education. Having children work together strengthening communication skills, reading skills and writing.

  8. Well, part of this information is scary when you think about introducing a child to the internet. They already know many things about technology as far as how to use it, but maybe not how to use it safely. So things like plagiarism, fraud and the like would be taught about, and ways to avoid such obstacles. This would have to be age appropriate, I would like for students to be mentally ready to face such challenges. Those not mature enough might try to take advantage of the shortcomings of the internet security and do things like plagiarize or worst create fraudulent information (for whatever reason). So in order to compensate for the maturity level, I would direct students towards age appropriate and school approved websites.
